Construction

Have you ever visited a web site only to be rather rudely informed your system wasn't good enough?

Maybe you didn't have the very latest versions of half a dozen plug-ins required to view the site, or maybe your modem or system just wasn't quick enough to download the pages in a sensible time?

Well, it wasn't one of our sites. We believe the web should be about freely accessible information, so we like to keep things as simple and efficient as possible. So, if you're looking for a site that demands visitors have the very latest, fastest hardware and connections, or the very latest software, we apologise for wasting your time. If you want a site that the vast majority of visitors can enjoy easily, read on.

All our web pages are constructed to be as robust as possible. Differences between web browsers inevitably mean that pages will look different between, for example, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator - even if they are running on the same machine. However, by exercising due diligence during construction these differences can be kept to a minimum.

Similarly, different screen resolutions can have a dramatic impact on the appearance of a page unless care is taken. We take great care to ensure that, as far as possible, "the look" of the site remains constant regardless of resolution.

In short, we're committed to delivering sites that work well and look good all the time.

Testing

All our sites are thoroughly tested locally and then from unannounced web space, before going live, using Netscape Navigator (version 4.07) and Microsoft Internet Explorer (versions 4 and 5) at various resolutions, including 640 x 480. This testing is done on older, slower equipment as well as more modern machines to ensure download times are kept reasonable.

Backup and maintenance

To facilitate speedy and accurate updates to your site, a complete copy is kept on one of our local hard disks. A secondary backup to this copy is written to CD-ROM, which is updated whenever major revisions are made. In the very unlikely event your website is corrupted (for example, due to a server failure), or if you change ISPs, these backups enable your site to be re-posted rapidly.

We will happily maintain and update your site as and when required after completion. There is no standing charge for this service - unlike some other companies, we only charge for work we actually do, not for simply being prepared to work.

Alternatively, if you do not wish us to maintain a copy of your site (and there are many reasons why you may not), we simply provide you with a copy of the entire site on CD-ROM when we sign it off. This copy is then yours to do with as you wish, enabling you to keep your own hard disk copy for maintenance.
